Rewind to 1987, when Badrinath’s father was in the business of Industrial supplies. It was a complete credit business and there was not much scope to expand beyond a point of suffocation. Badri and his elder brother Amarnath had just completed graduation and joined their father’s business. They did not have any idea about the business but were open to learn. How they got into the business of Sanitary ware is a story worth mentioning.
In one of their collection drives, they were asked by a industry in Coimbatore to collect their outstanding dues from a shop in Bangalore. When they arrived at the shop in the market, it was a Sanitary ware shop. They went unannounced to the shop to collect the due, and it was quite a large sum for those days. The Sanitary ware shop owner just gave it to them without scrambling for money. That was quite an eye-opener for the young lads who were looking for an idea? They started a small 300 sqft shop in Minerva circle to do wholesale trade of plumbing items.
First six months was very testing but business picked up afterwards. Katta Ceramics that we see today is a testimony for their hard work and business acumen. Badrinath’s philosophy of business is simple. “No Business can go in loss. There is profit in any business if you manage it well.”
In 1995, their retail outlet was started. More products were added to the basket and exclusive brands were brought in. Bangalore housing market grew in the next 10 years and Katta Ceramics was positioned to ride the wave. Katta has multiple focus verticals – builders, residential clients, commercial clients and large offices.
Katta Ceremics has Sanitary ware products from Hindware, Jaquar, Noken, Queo and Artis. They have each floor allocated to the brands. Noken is from Spain, Queo is a UK brand and Artis is a European brand – both high end designer ones. There are many brands of Tiles and flooring. Wellness products such as Jacuzi and indoor swimming pool is another vertical of products.
